Description

The triangle Apeldoorn - Vaassen - Deventer is mainly wetland, a wet region between the moraine of the eastern Veluwe and the river clay landscape of the IJssel. Vaassen and Apeldoorn are located on the edge of the moraine. Deventer originated at the foot of a river dune along the IJssel. In between lies the wetland, formerly a vast swamp forest, now cultivated and drained by weirs. This was possible after the construction of the Veluwse Bandijk, which was laid along the IJssel around 1370. On this route you pass from west to east the Apeldoornsch Kanaal, the Nieuwe Wetering, the Apeldoornse Halve Wetering, the Groote Wetering, the Nijbroekse Wetering and the Terwoldse Wetering.
