Walk on the Island of Schalkwijk

From Eethuis Ster in the Kersentuin you can take a nice walk through the polders around Schalkwijk. First a cup of coffee with a delicious piece of cake and then you're on your way. A nice, quiet route through the green polder takes you to Fort WKU. This tea house with terrace is located in an old fort that used to be part of the New Dutch Waterline: Fort Werk on the Korte Uitweg. The nineteenth-century fort consists of a moat, an earth wall and an inner courtyard with a bomb-proof barracks. The picturesque Schalkwijk is also on your route, nice to take a look around. At the roundabout on the Jonkheer Ramweg in Schalkwijk you will pass a plaque that commemorates four deceased members of the resistance from Schalkwijk.
