Schalkwijk walking route: along the Resistance Monument

Your walking route starts with a cup of coffee at Eethuis Ster in the Kersentuin. Order something delicious with it, you'll walk off that later! Then you put on your hiking boots. Walking along the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal you quickly get into your rhythm, while looking out at the passing boats. In the polders you walk through wide grasslands. It is wonderfully quiet here. You have a beautiful view of the ditches and canals that cut through the Island of Schalkwijk. At the roundabout on the Jonkheer Ramweg in Schalkwijk you can stop at a memorial plaque. This is placed here to honor four killed members of the resistance from Schalkwijk. The resistance members were betrayed and subsequently executed by the Germans.
