Description

Europaradweg R1 (D3)

The Europaradweg R1 is one of the most important and best-known long-distance routes in Europe, which every avid cyclist has already taken a part of. From Boulogne-sur-Mer in France to St. Petersburg, the route covers more than 3,500 kilometers through nine different countries, 940 kilometers of which through Germany. From the German-Dutch border, the route runs through the Münsterland, the Teutoburg Forest via the Harz through Dessau and Wittenberg on to Berlin. The route meanders through Saxony-Anhalt for about 260 kilometers.

From the Harz, at the foot of the legendary Brocken, the D3 takes you to the colorful town of Wernigerode. In Thale you will get to know the unique Bodetal. Once you have left the Harz behind you, you will reach the Bauhaus town of Dessau-Roßlau via a number of picturesque villages. Via the Gartenreich Dessau-Wörlitz you can continue cycling to the Lutherstad Wittenberg. From the border with Brandenburg, the route continues towards Potsdam.

We recommend that you follow the route from west to east, the entire route is well signposted and developed. In Saxony-Anhalt you can choose from six stages of the R1/D3; Ilsenburg-Thale through the Harz, Thale-Gatersleben through Anhalt, Gatersleben-Bernburg with many lakes and castles, Bernburg-Dessau for Bauhaus lovers, Dessau-Wittenberg for even more culture and finally Wittenberg-Fläming.
