Description
The area above Dokkum is one of the most authentic areas in the Netherlands from a cultural-historical and landscape perspective. The area, which is protected against the high sea water by dikes, has wide views and beautiful clouds. The picturesque landscape is therefore largely adorned by Frisian terp villages. The villages of Ee, Holwerd, Metslawier and Paesens-Moddergat have a protected village view.
Because they are still so well preserved and beautiful, they even have the status of a national monument. Beautiful places to get off your bike for a while, where it seems as if time has stood still. Just past Ee, on the other side of the Dokkumergrootdiep, you can take a breather and use the facilities of the Rustpunt camping site De Hammerslag. The Wadden tour shows the rich history of the area and connects the villages with each other. A handy app or a route on paper guides you by bike (or by car or on foot) during this route.
