Westerheide walking route from Laren

Your route starts at Q-Bike in Laren. This old village green or es was founded around 2500 BC. It was always a village of farmers and weavers, but after the arrival of the tram line to Amsterdam and Hilversum in 1892 it became a commuter village. Artists also know where to find Laren. You walk from Laren to the vast Westerheide, which is wedged between Bussum, Hilversum and Laren. This area was formed during the Ice Age and clay loam, sand and gravel were extracted in the past. Spread across the Zuiderheide and Westerheide you will find 4,000 year old burial mounds, some of which are very close to the road. The burial mounds are known as 'The Seven Mountains'. You walk back through pleasant Laren.
