Tour around the Maasplassen of Heel

Your walking route starts in the picturesque old centre of Heel. Heel is a church village on the Maas in Central Limburg. You immediately walk to Kasteel Nederhoven, a moated hunting lodge from 1614. You can also spend the night here. Then you walk on to the isolated lake Sint-Anna's Beemd. This was created from a gravel quarry, which is why the banks are steep. Kingfishers catch fish from the willow forest and more than 200 plant species have been counted. You walk back along the Maas and the Maasplassen. You always see many boats here, because the Maas and Maasplassen form the largest contiguous water sports area in the Netherlands!
