Beautiful route, good for a morning or afternoon of cycling. Nature is allowed to take its course at the Oostvaardersplassen. You see that, especially in the forest areas you cycle through: the forests are clearly not landscaped, they are 'different' and that is special to see. And beautiful too.
Another striking thing about the route is that you do not pass any buildings, over 40 km long. And that in the Netherlands. It does mean that you have to bring your own provisions: food and drinks. There are many beautiful places along the way with picnic tables to sit and relax.
Another special feature is that you can pass an excavation site of a ship. To do this you have to turn right at some point, instead of left. After about 100m you reach the place. It goes without saying that you will then have to cycle the 100m back, because the route is in the other direction.
The first part from the starting point is beautiful: a wide view over the lakes and the grounds between them. Then you arrive at the dike. In the beginning there is also a beautiful view to the left over the Ijselmeer. You can see Amsterdam, among other things. On the right are the lakes, wide, grand. You cycle along a road, but I don't think it bothers you much. At a certain point the cycle path becomes slightly lower along the dike. As a result, you no longer see the Ijselmeer, but you also notice less of the cars.
After a few kilometers you turn right and at junction 27 turn left again. Now a completely different landscape begins: the forest I was just talking about. You cycle on a small cycle path that meanders through the forest.
After a while, past junction 91, you will come to a T-junction. The ship is located 100m to the right (nice to see!). The route goes to the left.
At the top of the Knardijk it turns right again, towards junction 6. Now follows a long cycle path along a canal on your left. There are always options to leave the bike behind and walk a bit to the right into the Oostvaardersplassen. To watch or to sit at a picnic table. You will pass the Oostvaardersveld, among other things (tip: take a look because there is a beautiful view).
Ultimately you have to follow junction 97. You will not pass this junction (again), but the Nature Experience Center is on the route to this junction.
At the end it is definitely recommended to visit the Nature Experience Center. There is plenty to see and do and there is a (small) restaurant for coffee and cake, etc. The center closes in the afternoon somewhere around 5 o'clock.
Last tip: the dike between junctions 67 and 24 is long and open. Check the wind direction in advance and make sure you have the wind behind you on the dike. If necessary, reverse the direction of the route.
