Very Nice Places: Tour Monnickendam, Volendam & Marken

The cycling tour starts in Monnickendam at the Weeshuis (Weezenland 16). A good start to the day is a cup of coffee with a delicious piece of homemade apple pie in the beautiful garden of the Orphanage. At this special place, located in a beautiful historic building, people with a distance to the labor market work, and they make the most beautiful and delicious things.

From Monnickendam the tour leads to Volendam. Along the way you will come across nice stopping points. The farm of the Honigh family is a must for children; delicious ice cream and have fun playing. Also nice to visit in Katwoude is the cheese farm Jacobs Hoeve (free entrance) of Henri Willig.

In Volendam you will be amazed, especially the visitors who come there. You feel like a tourist in your own country. We will reveal a well-kept secret of the dike (promise not to tell..). At the Visafslag (the only shop on the right) you can buy very nice handmade products from this special social enterprise.

Then you take the boat to Marken; a nice boat trip of just half an hour. In Marken, a visit to the lighthouse (Het Paard van Marken) is a must. This is the most photographed building in the Netherlands!
Also visit the Marker Museum, there you get an impression of what life was like in the past.

After this you cycle back to Monnickendam.
