Steinbruchweg

This walk takes you through woodland and open countryside. In the beginning you wander through the"In der Striet\\\" nature reserve. Enjoy a beautiful view over the rural landscape and listen to the birds chirping in the silence. You can even encounter a deer during the day. The Mackenheimer viaduct, which you cross under the quiet village street, is impressive. Maybe a draisine just runs over it?

Things get exciting in the Mackenheim quarry. Here you can see how gneiss transformation rocks and iron-rich mica have been mined for centuries. Due to the immediate restoration of the mined pieces, rare plants, birds, insects and amphibians have come to rest. You may be able to spot an eagle owl or peregrine falcons. Even rarer lizards and beautiful dragonflies find a new habitat there.
