Tour of Vollenhove, Marknesse and Beulakerwijde

The Noordoostpolder was constructed in the 1940s to create new agricultural land. Where the peat soil was not suitable for agriculture, forests developed. Marknesse was founded in 1942 from the Dorp B barracks camp. Like the other villages in this region, the name comes from a lost medieval village. In Marknesse you cycle past Hendrik Schaap Bread and Pastry Bakery for a tasty piece of Blokzijler Brok. You will soon enter the Weerribben, one of the most beautiful nature reserves in the Netherlands. And silence. What a wonderful area! No matter how pristine and natural the environment looks, every square meter is made by human hands. From the cycle path you will soon have a beautiful view over the Beulakerwijde.
