Round Frisian Lakes and Oudemirdum

Balk, a beautiful old town that enjoys a protected village view because of its many historic buildings. Further on you drive along the beautiful banks of the Slotermeer. Enjoy the silence while looking out over the rippling water. After a short cut you cycle a bit along the Fluezen lake, with a few islands. The largest is the Langehoekspôlle. The area was created during the ice age by a glacier. Then you cycle through the Gaasterland forests to the cozy Oudemirdum where you should definitely get off. You will pass the Fountain, a church from 1790. In Nijemirdum you will see a solitary church tower from the fourteenth century. The associated church was demolished in the eighteenth century.
