European Wasserscheide

A large part of the holiday landscape in romantic Franconia is taken up by the Frankenhöhe Nature Park, through which the heart of the European watershed runs. This height determines the direction in which the water from any well, no matter how small, eventually flows. The 98-kilometre route along this geographical feature makes hikers aware of the fact that they pass points from which the water sometimes flows north to the North Sea and then south again to the Black Sea. A fascinating idea. Ansbach and Schnelldorf are the final destinations on this wooded hiking route, which only takes you through larger towns in Schillingsfürst and Colmberg. Furthermore, it is a walk in the middle of nature. Wonderful stretches through the woods and across fields and fields, often on paths that run through small woods or meadows, are a delight for nature lovers and hikers. Varied landscapes with quiet forests, flowering meadows, dry grasslands and beautiful views adorn the character of the road.
