Tour of Gaasterland: Oudemirdum and Nijemirdum

First, you cycle through the Fonteinbos to the Wyldemerk. A long time ago, an annual fair was held here, hence the name. Sand extraction has created a large lake, which is connected to De Luts (part of the Elfstedenroute). Sand martins nest in the sand bank and part of it has been designated as a dragonfly reserve. Along the dike of the IJsselmeer you cycle to the pleasant Oudemirdum where you should definitely get off. You will pass the Fontein, a church from 1790. In Nijemirdum you will see a solitary church tower from the fourteenth century. The associated church was demolished in the eighteenth century.
