It is hard to imagine a more beautiful start to a walk: Spessartweg 1 starts in the Aschaffenburger Fasanerie, the parking lot at the end of the city's green belt, which is known for the impressive Johannisburg Castle with Pompejanum. The road follows the traces of princes, wagoners and pilgrims, crossing the Spessart from west to east. The most important part of the almost 60 kilometer long road are historical sights, such as the pilgrimage church of the Klooster Schmerlenbach, the castles Hafenlohr and Lohr a.Main. The Spessartweg leaves the Main once more to the famous pilgrimage site of Mariabuchen, where the monastery and church lie against the steep slope in the middle of the forest. From there it goes through a typical Spessart meadow valley up to the Schönrain ruin, from where you have a great view of the Maintal. In the city of three rivers Gemünden, the route ends at the market square, but is signposted to the train station
