This award-winning long hiking trail is 520 kilometers long and connects six holiday regions in Franconia and shows the diversity of this region like no other. Starting point is Untereichenstein, after which it goes directly into the green wilderness of the Frankenwald (Franconian Forest). The wildly romantic Höllental and the basin of the wild Rodach, Kronach and Kulmbach are the first highlights. It continues through the adorable ObermainoJura region. For the climb to the Kordigast or the Staffelberg you will be rewarded with wonderful views over the Maintal and architectural masterpieces such as the Vierzehnheiligen basilica. Bizarre rock formations, mysterious caves and picturesque villages fascinate in the Fränkische Schweiz, through which the next 100 kilometers of the Frankenweg run. When you reach the Nürnberger Land you get more views over the Schnaittachtal. Castles and small towns always provide variety. The ascents become less, the Frankenweg passes through medieval Berching in the Altmühltal Nature Park with the picturesque Jura heights and juniper heaths. The route then crosses the Franconian Lakeland before reaching its final destination in Harburg in the Schwäbische Alb.
