The UNESCO World Heritage city of Bamberg offers an impressive starting point for the Steigerwald Panoramaweg. Along the way you go on a romantic journey through nature and history. As the name of the route suggests, the viewpoints are the highlights of the walk. The view extends from the Frankenhöhe in the south over the Mainland in Franconia to Spessart and to the Rhön, but also to the Hassbergen, in the Maintal, to Bamberg and to Fränkische Alb. Again and again you descend to the settlements in Franconia with buildings from times long past. Along the route, for example, Iphofen is a pearl with one of the most beautiful market squares in Franconia. Neighboring Castell is a rural county surrounded by vineyards. The church of the former Cistercian monastery in Ebrach is one of the largest early Gothic churches in Germany. The famous baroque architects Leonhard Dientzenhofer, Joseph Greising and Balthasar Neumann contributed to the construction of the monastery buildings. At the end of the route in Bad Windsheim, the thermal bath rewards you with the unique salt lake in Europe.
