Vlaardingen has a rich past. People lived in the area long before the common era, and in 1018 the small army of Dirk III defeated the large army of the German emperor during the Battle of Vlaardingen. The very beginning of Dutch independence, and if there had been no floods centuries later, Vlaardingen might now be the Hofstad. Later, Vlaardingen grew into the herring city of the Netherlands. In Museum Vlaardingen, the starting point of this walk, the past is never far away.
The walk takes you via the harbor to the historic city center and past Het Hof city park, once the country residence of the Craft Lords of Vlaardingen. There are various options for a drink and a snack along the way.
