Your route starts at MyHotel Meppel. After just a few kilometres you will cycle into the Weerribben-Wieden National Park. With around 10,000 hectares, this is the largest contiguous marshland in North-West Europe. You will cycle through a labyrinth of mysterious-looking marsh forests, lakes, creeks and flowery meadows. Water soldier and water lily grow in and around the waters. The fields are decorated with cuckoo flowers, orchids and yellow iris. You will also see tjasker mills, which were used to lower the water level. You will pass through small water villages such as Dwarsgracht. Beautiful places, in the middle of nature! Via the lovely water village of Giethoorn you will cycle back to your starting point. Take a look at De Sterrenberg, a mill from 1786 in Nijeveen that was relocated from Weener in Germany in the 1970s.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
