Description
The route starts and ends in a beautiful old town. Schoonhoven is known for its silversmiths. In addition to the Dutch Silver Museum, the town also has 140 national monuments. There are city walks to be made.
When you leave Schoonhoven, you come twice on a surprisingly beautiful cycle path between the meadows (32 to 23 and 36 to 64). After this you cycle over the Lekdijk to Krimpen aan de Lek. Here you cross the ferry and you are immediately in Kinderdijk. Kinderdijk is of course famous, but it is also impressive to see how many windmills there are. You can also in one mill or in several. The cycle path in Kinderdijk goes right between the windmills. If you do not visit a mill, the cycle path is free.
Past Kinderdijk you cycle along a large canal called Groote or Achterwaterschap. Finally you come back to the Lekdijk, now on the other side. The last part from 5 to 6 is on an undoubtedly old, unpaved road between the meadows. This gives an impression of how the roads used to be everywhere in the Netherlands. After this you cross the Lek again with the ferry and cycle to Schoonhoven,
Tip: when you enter Schoonhoven you pass Hotel Belvedere: beautiful terrace with a view over the Lek, nicely decorated. Might be a good place to finish the ride,
