Description
The walk starts from the Kompas camping Nieuwpoort.
Along the King Albert I monument from 1938 and the harbour
for King Albert I and the Heroes of the IJzer.
Then we pass the largest marina in Europe, Novus Portus.
All those yachts are impressive.
On the right we find the Military Domain, we are not allowed to pass through here, not even from the beach. There is shooting towards the Sea.
We go to the coastal road via Lage Duinenstraat and Matrozenlaan.
The coastal tram runs here.
We go via Junctions 75 and 76 on the Sint-Laureins beach, which used to be the beach for the locals in French-speaking tourism.
Then we find the Beach Clubhouse Westende-Bad: a new and stylish beach clubhouse, built almost entirely in wood.
We continue to junctions 74 and 73. There we see Les Zephyrs on the right: a protected villa from 1922. Museum about daily life at the seaside.
A little further on we see the St. Theresia Chapel on the right:
Neo-Romanesque church, together with surrounding villas, a protected villagescape.
On Henri Jasparlaan we can take the coastal tram to Nieuwpoort.
