Description

You cycle in the direction of Oosterbeek. This chic village is known for the Battle of Arnhem. In the Second World War (1944) the place played an important role because of the airborne landings and battles of the Allied troops. This was part of Operation Market Garden. Here you cross the Lower Rhine to Driel. You are now cycling towards the east side around Arnhem. The last ten kilometers lead you through the green surroundings back to your starting point. Stop for a moment at Lichtenbeek. This monumental estate was part of the estates of the former Mariënborg monastery, which was closed in 1580.
