Provided by: route.nl
From your starting point, you first cycle a short distance in the direction of Oosterbeek. This chic village is known for the Battle of Arnhem. In the Second World War (1944), the place played an important role because of the airborne landing and battle of the allied troops. This was part of Operation Market Garden. You cross the Neder-Rijn to Driel, so you now cycle towards Arnhem. The last ten kilometers lead you through the green surroundings back to your starting point. Make a quick stop at Lichtenbeek. This monumental estate belonged to the lands of the former Mariënborg monastery, which was closed in 1580. Nice to get a taste of the atmosphere. Also take a break at Van der Valk Hotel Arnhem, in the middle of the forests of the Veluwe!
