Provided by: route.nl
From your starting point you first cycle a short distance in the direction of Oosterbeek. This chic village is known for the Battle of Arnhem. In the Second World War (1944) the place played an important role because of the airborne landing and battle of the Allied troops. This formed part of Operation Market Garden. You cross the Lower Rhine to Driel, so you now drive towards Arnhem. The last ten kilometers lead you through the green surroundings back to your starting point. Stop for a moment at Lichtenbeek. This monumental estate was part of the lands of the former Mariënborg monastery, which was closed in 1580. Nice to experience the atmosphere. Also take a break at Van der Valk Hotel Arnhem, in the middle of the forests of the Veluwe!
