Your route starts at Madame Rose in Katwijk aan Zee, a household name for those who love good food. Then you cycle along the edge of the dunes to Zee. The Vuurbaak dates from 1605: it is the second oldest lighthouse in the Netherlands. A little further on you will see the white Andreas Church from 1461, the only church in the Netherlands that is located right on the boulevard. You cycle inland past the marina for a nice tour through the polder. You will pass Oud Teylingen Castle (now a ruin), built around 1275 by Dirk van Teylingen. It was dedicated to Floris van Henegouwen: it had to always be available to the Dutch count and could not be used against him. You cycle back to your starting point via Rijnsburg.

Oud Teylingen is a castle island, where a castle used to be. This castle was built around 1275 by Dirk van Teylingen and a year later dedicated to Floris van Henegouwen. In 1372 the castle came into the hands of Albrecht of Bavaria, who in 1386 donated it to the Cistercian order. They founded the Mari? Nhave monastery there after 1412. The original castle had probably already disappeared by then.
