Border tour near Baarle-Nassau

South of Baarle-Nassau you take a walk through the border area. First you walk through the forests of the Tommelse Heide. Then you walk across the Schaluinen Estate. It is wonderfully quiet here. Between the trees you occasionally have beautiful views over flower-filled fields. You walk along a car-free road to the reconstruction of a switch house from the First World War. The Wire of Death was located here at the time: a kind of Iron Curtain with which the Germans wanted to prevent Belgians from fleeing to the neutral Netherlands. This wire carried a deadly charge of electricity. Around junction 20 you notice that you are walking through Belgium, the houses look slightly different.
