Tour of the border at Baarle-Nassau

South of Baarle-Nassau you take a walk through the border area. First you walk through the woods of the Tommelse Heide. Then you walk across Landgoed Schaluinen. It is wonderfully quiet here. Between the trees you occasionally have beautiful vistas over flowery fields. You walk on a car-free road to the reconstruction of a switch house from the First World War. At the time, the Wire of Death was located here: a kind of Iron Curtain with which the Germans wanted to prevent Belgians from fleeing to the neutral Netherlands. This wire carried a deadly charge of electricity. You will notice around junction 20 that you are walking through Belgium, the houses look slightly different.
