Border tour near Baarle-Nassau

South of Baarle-Nassau you take a walk through the border area. First you walk through the forests of the Tommelse Heide. Then you walk over the Schaluinen estate. It is wonderfully quiet here. Between the trees you have beautiful views of flowery fields every now and then. On a car-free road you walk to the reconstruction of a switch house from the First World War. This was where the Death Wire was located at the time: a kind of Iron Curtain with which the Germans wanted to prevent Belgians from fleeing to neutral Netherlands. This wire carried a deadly charge of electricity. Around junction 20 you notice that you are walking through Belgium, the houses look slightly different.
