Description
De Groote Heide is a nature reserve east of Venlo. The largest part consists of heather. You imagine yourself here in Limburg history. This heathland was already in the Middle Ages. Nature and history alternate. For example, parts of the nature reserve were used as an airport during WWII. In the landscape you can see reminders of this time here and there. De Groote Heide also previously served as a military training base. You will encounter three different types of heather here. One of these is the rare red heather. You will also discover a rich animal life.
