Description
This long cycle route starts at Hotel Restaurant Toxopeus in Anjum. During this bike tour you will discover the surroundings of the Lauwersmeer and Dokkum. The Lauwersmeer is known as a bird paradise on the former seabed. In earlier times, fresh and salt water flowed into the Lauwerszee. Fear of flooding led to the construction of a dam in 1969. A beautiful new landscape was created on the former seabed, a real bird paradise. In short: a wonderful environment for cycling. Also take a look at the viewpoints and the bird hides. Once you have made a tour around the lake, follow the route to Dokkum, one of the Frisian eleven cities. You end the route at Hotel Restaurant Toxopeus, where you can dine and spend the night to discover the area even better.
