Walking through the Aekingerzand

After a wonderful night's sleep at Zonnekamp Camping, you'll be looking forward to a walk through the Drents-Friese Wold. From the campsite you walk on an unpaved path along the edge of the forest. On the left you look out over fields and fields. Further on you walk to the right along the Doldersummerveld, a large heathland. A little later you walk onto the Aekingerzand, a vast shifting sand area where wind and weather have free rein. It is wonderful to walk here in this rugged, wide landscape. The area is grazed by a herd of sheep. From a watchtower you have a beautiful panorama. You also pass the Grenspoel, a fen on the border of Drenthe and Friesland. You walk back to the campsite through the forest and the countryside. Time for a terrace, you deserve it!
