Description

The Stellingwerf is a special region in the southeast of Friesland. As early as the fourteenth century, some then poor Drenthe villages joined the more prosperous Friesland. However, they retained their Drenthe character, so that you will find an authentic cultural history here. To start with, in the beautiful village of Oldeberkoop, which enjoys a protected village view. You can admire the twelfth-century Boniface Church here. You then drive a long way through unspoiled nature along the river Kuunder. Or, as he is called in Frisian: the Tjonger. The river forms the language border between Frisian and Stellingwerfs. Just past Elsloo you can stop over on the cozy terrace of Zonnekamp Camping. Boijl has one of the oldest Frisian bell chairs. The accompanying church dates from the thirteenth century.
