The beautiful polders near Alkmaar

From Europarcs Resort de Rijp you immediately drive into the polders. Get a breath of fresh air between the wide fields before you reach Graft and De Rijp: two villages where you can spot many monumental buildings. You continue along the canal, and the ramparts of Fort Spijkerboor appear in the distance. In Oost-Graftdijk you will pass a wooden workers' house from 1877 with a unique cage behind it. Generations of Graftdijkers made a living by flogging hemp for rope makers. At Europarcs Resort de Rijp you can enjoy a delicious meal before taking a tour of the Schermerpolder and Eilandspolder. Here too you cycle through a typical Dutch landscape of fields, ditches and cows. In Zuidschermer you can still admire the Zwarte Kerkje from 1665, one of the few remaining bell-shaped churches.
