The Zuiderwaterlinie is the oldest, longest and most used of all Dutch water lines. All the way from Bergen op Zoom to Grave. A unique chain of 11 Brabant fortified towns and their surroundings, connected by the typical Dutch story of defending with water. Where soldiers used to stand at the border, you will now find Brabant conviviality against the backdrop of a rich history. Enjoy the cozy historic fortified towns, visit the sturdy forts or relax in the special nature.
After the battle against the Spanish, this line served against the French and Belgians, until fighter planes in the Second World War put an end to the Zuiderwaterlinie as a military defense line.
Go out and discover the Zuiderwaterlinie! The Zuiderwaterlinie walking path is plotted over the Brabant walking junction system. The walking route is recognizable by the green and yellow signage with the Zuiderwaterlinie symbol. The total length of the walking path is 290 kilometers, but you can also choose to walk shorter partial routes.
