This route is based on the book " A pleasure trip in the summer of 1718, the Von Uffenbach family in the Netherlands ". The route was created with the permission and cooperation of the author Dr. Johan R. ter Molen and Waanders publishing house in Zwolle. For an optimal experience, we recommend that you use our route app (with full navigation) and, if necessary, order the beautiful and richly illustrated book via this link from Waanders publishers.
Today's route, page 175 of the book: After their visit to Rotterdam, the family leaves for Breda, but they do not take the recommended route via a crossing at Moerdijk because they have heard that the young Prince Friso drowned there in a fatal accident . Despite the advice not to travel over the many dangerous and slippery dikes, they cross the IJssel at Capelle and the Lek at Krimpen. From there they travel to Gorinchem where they have to spend the night. Here you can still enjoy the beautiful historic center and this is also the end point of this part of the route. This route also goes via the beautiful Kinderdijk with its beautiful landscape and beautiful windmills.
