After this route you will never again proclaim that Flanders is a flat country! We send you over our mountains and through our valleys along the most beautiful panoramas from Heuvelland. In clear weather you can sometimes see up to 40 km!
Kemmel
The start is in Kemmel, the village at the foot of the Kemmelberg. We'll send you up a side hill called the Lettenberg. You can park your bike at the entrance of the forest path at the Lettenberg and climb the hill on foot. From the top you have a beautiful view over Ypres, Wijtschate and Messines. After this we will send you towards Scherpenberg and if you cycle the extra loop, you will come to a viewpoint on a small valley that we very modestly call'Little Switzerland\\\'. Also look back regularly, the rolling hills are a feast for the eyes. Via the tiny village of De Klijte you cycle to Reningelst and then to Westouter. This village is located deep in a valley, so you know what to expect: a steep climb towards Baneberg. As soon as you get to the top, stop and look behind you: the view of Westouter will remain burned into your retina, it is that beautiful.
Dranouter
After this tough climb you can drive down to Loker and then to Dranouter, our festival village. From Dranouter you cycle uphill again to Nieuwkerke. At junction 29 you can add an extra loop where you pass the Tombe, a place with a very nice view. From there you continue cycling towards Nieuwkerke. In the Middle Ages, this village was a real town that gradually lost its prestige due to the decline of the cloth industry and religious turbidity. Just before the village you have a panoramic view on both sides: a beautiful view towards the Heuvellands'bergen\\\': the Kemmelberg, Scherpenberg, the Zwarteberg and you also see the Katsberg or Mont des Cats, the hill with an antenna on top. The Mont des Cats is just across the border. On the other side you look out towards France. After Nieuwkerke you cycle in the direction of Kemmel, to the starting point of the tour. In Kemmel, don't forget to pop into our Visitor Center. You will find us right in front of the church. The visit is completely free and there are always interesting exhibitions.
