In Montferland you feel like you're abroad. Wooded hills are surrounded by golden fields and flowery meadows. Only the many windmills reveal that you are in the Netherlands. The nature and cultural history invite you to take a cycling tour through this beautiful municipality.
Admire eye-catchers
Many sights in this area, such as Huis Bergh Castle and the Grafelijke Korenmolen, date from the time of the lords and counts Van den Bergh. Today, these historic buildings are still among the absolute eye-catchers of Montferland and are more than worth a visit. Since 2016, Montferland also has its own lookout tower, on top of the Hulzenberg in Stokkum. This striking tower is built entirely with wood from the surrounding Bergherbos and it gives you a beautiful view of Montferland, the German Eltenberg and even the Veluwezoom! Would you like to get off while cycling and climb the observation tower yourself? At 800 meters from junction 85, along the concrete cycle path on the Oude Eltenseweg in Stokkum, there is a wooden signpost with the text'Lookout tower Hulzenberg\\\'. You will reach the tower after about 500 meters via a straight forest path! Follow this route over the junction network to see all this beauty with your own eyes.
Climbing hills
This varied cycling tour takes you through the countryside, but also straight through the forests of Montferland. You will also climb the Drieheuvelenweg and the Muur van Zeddam, which were part of the National Cycling Championships in 2017.
Further on the road
Mountain bikers, riders and hikers will also enjoy the beautiful Montferland! You will find a challenging mountain bike route, a cross-border equestrian network and various signposted hiking trails. For more inspiration, visit vvvmontferland.nl.
