In Montferland you can imagine yourself abroad for a while. Wooded hills are surrounded by golden fields and flowery meadows. Only the many windmills reveal that you are in the Netherlands. The nature and cultural history invite you to a bicycle tour through this beautiful municipality.
Admire eye catchers
Many places of interest in this area, such as Kasteel Huis Bergh and the Grafelijke Korenmolen, date back to the time of the lords and counts of Van den Bergh. These historic buildings are still among the absolute eye-catchers of Montferland today and are well worth a visit. Since 2016, Montferland also has its own lookout tower, on top of the Hulzenberg in Stokkum. This striking tower is completely built with wood from the surrounding Bergherbos and it gives you a beautiful view of Montferland, the German Eltenberg and even the Veluwezoom! Do you want to get off while cycling to climb the watchtower yourself? At 800 meters from junction 85, along the concrete cycle path on the Oude Eltenseweg in Stokkum, there is a wooden signpost with the text'Uitkijktoren Hulzenberg\\\'. Via a straight forest path you will reach the tower after about 500 meters! Follow this route over the junction network to see all that beauty with your own eyes.
Climbing hills
This varied cycling tour takes you through the countryside, but also right through the woods of Montferland. You can also climb the Drieheuvelenweg and the Muur van Zeddam, which were part of the NK cycling in 2017.
