Cycling through Schouwen-Duiveland

Cycling on Schouwen-Duiveland is a pleasure. The beach is around the corner, it is a wooded area and you cycle through picturesque villages. Be surprised by the nice atmosphere of this island.

Fine Burgh-Haamstede
You start the cycle route at Camping de Meypacht in Burgh-Haamstede. A wonderful place to spend a holiday. The campsite is located near the beach and you can walk or cycle straight into the forest. Burgh-Haamstede is a wonderful place to stay. Just outside Burgh-Haamstede you will find the Plompe Toren. The tower is a remnant of the village of Koudekerke that once lay on Schouwen.

Cycling along the water
From Burgh-Haamstede you cycle along the east coast of the island towards Serooskerke. Here you have a beautiful view over the Oosterschelde. Serooskerke is a typical ring village, the church is in the middle with the houses in a ring around it. The whole village consists of only a few streets. From here you cycle northwest towards Renesse, the tourist village of Schouwen-Duiveland.

Historic Schouwen-Duiveland
With the Oosterscheldekering at one end of the island and the Flood Museum at the other, Schouwen-Duiveland is inextricably linked to the sea. The island is surrounded by the North Sea, the Oosterschelde and the Grevelingen. The battle against the water can be found in many places. On some houses you can see how high the water has come. The last part of the route you cycle through the forest. You end the cycle route again in Burgh-Haamstede at Camping de Meypacht.
