Into nature near Noordlaren

Just outside Noordlaren you can take a walk through the Oostpolder, a nature reserve that borders the Zuidlaardermeer. Put on your sturdy shoes for a refreshing walk. From De Waterjuffers near Vos you can walk straight into the Oostpolder. This nature reserve is located in the stream valley of the former river Hunze. As you walk along the Osdijk, you will see a few traction holes and drainage ditches on either side of the path that were created over the centuries by small-scale peat extraction. Then you walk back into the Oostpolder. You can spot many birds in the open grasslands. With a bit of luck you will also see a hunting sea eagle soaring through the sky.
