Cycling through the Brabantse Wal

Starting point: Halsteren
Halsteren is derived from Halstert, which would be composed of Halha (extension of highland) and stert (tail). Another theory says that Halsteren comes from the dialect Altere. It would be a corruption of the Latin Alta Terra, which would mean the 'high land'. And that in turn refers to the location on the Brabantse Wal.

The Brabantse Wal
During this route you cycle right through the Brabantse Wal, a sandy plateau that extends in the far west of North Brabant. The area stands out because of its varied landscapes. The rolling terrain of the Brabantse Wal is in some places up to over 20 meters and that provides beautiful views.

The Wouwse Plantage
The forest area of the Wouwse Plantage is still an oasis of peace. You can hear the birds singing, the wind rustling through the leaves and in the distance you can hear the tapping of a woodpecker. A wonderful area for cycling! The entire area of the Wouwse Plantage is approximately 900 hectares and is located on a sand ridge that was formed approximately 20,000 years ago. The Wouwse Plantage has a rich history and has had various owners over the centuries. The estate has now grown into a beautiful nature reserve with various types of forest.
