Forest Pavilion Bakkeveen
Near Bospaviljoen Bakkeveen are the Bakkeveense Duinen, a heathland and forest area that was created after peat extraction in the 19th century. It is an example of what all of Southeast Friesland looked like two centuries ago. The sand drift largely consists of an open heathland surrounded by forest.

Historic Bakkeveen
Bakkeveen is a cozy Frisian village. The village was first mentioned in 1231 in connection with the Frisian-Drentse war. During the Eighty Years' War the village was destroyed by the Spanish. The current Bakkeveen was created during the peat extraction in 1660. Are you a real bargain hunter? A flea market is organized every two weeks. It is the largest flea market in the Northern Netherlands with thousands of visitors per edition.
