Walking through National Park Utrechtse Heuvelrug

The starting point of this route is Café & Terras Beauforthuis, which is located in the middle of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug. A perfect base, in the middle of the woods and heathlands, to start your walk. There are parking spaces across the street from the cafe. Start with a nice cup of coffee or tea and something tasty from the organic menu. When you return, you can satisfy your appetite with one of the delicious vegetable quiches with, for example, a specialty beer. The Beauforthuis is a theater café, so who knows, you might stick around for a concert or theater performance.

Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park
Where can you go for a nicer walk than in a National Park? The Heuvelrug is the second largest forest area in the Netherlands after the Veluwe. The Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park consists of forest, heathland, sand drifts and grassland. You can enjoy walking on the lateral moraine, through the heathlands, past castles and country estates, in the floodplains and in the woods. Marvel at nature and who knows, you might see deer, badgers or lizards.

Pyramid of Austerlitz
Along the way you will encounter various sights. At some point you will pass the Pyramid of Austerlitz. The 36 meter high pyramid was built in 1805 by soldiers of Napoleon and is one of the highlights of the Heuvelrug. Inspired by a campaign in Egypt, General Marmont opted for a pyramid topped with an obelisk. From the top you have a beautiful view of the region in clear weather. The Pyramid of Austerlitz\\\" owes its visitors mainly to the wooded area.
