The Veluwe was created during the Ice Age by glaciers that built moraines, followed by large sand drifts in the Middle Ages due to forest clearing. Hence all the variety!
Render cliffs
You cycle onto the Elspeet heath, where your thoughts are given space. The shepherd with a flock of sheep could easily cross your path. You cycle straight through the woods to Epe. Here you drive through the Renderkcliffs; drifting dunes from the Middle Ages. The name therefore means rising and falling hills.
Heath sheep
The beautiful rolling heathland of the Renderklippen is very special. This is one of the quiet places in the Netherlands. Burial mounds remind us of earlier times. The Epe-Heerde sheep herd grazes here about 130 Veluwe Heide sheep, a breed that almost disappeared. The shepherd is happy to have a chat with you if you meet him! Along heathland and through quiet forests you drive back to your starting point, via the cozy little village of Vierhouten.
