Nunspeet, Gelderland, The Netherlands

The Veluwe was formed in the ice age by glaciers that threw up moraines, followed in the middle ages by large sand drifts due to deforestation. Hence all the variation!
Rendering Clips
You cycle onto the Elspeetse heath, where your thoughts are given plenty of space. The shepherd with his flock of sheep could easily cross your path. You cycle straight through the forests to Epe. Here you cycle through the Renderklippen; drifting dunes from the Middle Ages. The name therefore means hills that go up and down.
Heathland sheep
The beautiful rolling heathland of the Renderklippen is very special. This is one of the quiet places of the Netherlands. Burial mounds are reminiscent of times gone by. The Epe-Heerde sheep herd lets about 130 Veluwe heath sheep graze here, a breed that almost disappeared. The shepherd will be happy to have a chat with you if you meet him! You drive along heathland and through quiet forests back to your starting point, via the cozy little village of Vierhouten.
