Border shopping near Groesbeek: the Kellener Altrhein

Just across the German border you can discover special and extensive nature reserves. Have you ever heard of the Kellener Altrhein? Or the Klever Reichswald?

Groesbeek Forests
Your route starts at Boscafé Merlijn, just across the German border. Enjoy a terrace in the house garden or drink a cup of coffee next to the wood-burning stove. You drive along the wooded Sint-Jansberg to the Groesbeekse Bossen. Take a look back at the beautiful views! Then you cycle to Mulderskop, within the Groesbeek forestry, the only remnant of the heath that used to be here. You will find rare species such as the sand lizard, smooth snake and slow worm.

Kellener Altrhein
You continue through the German nature reserve Kellener Altrhein, the well-preserved parts of the almost natural old arm of the Rhine. Here you can still see the typical vegetation zones with forest remnants and reeds. The nature reserve is an important wintering place for many water birds such as the spoonbill. Via Nütterden and the vast Klever Reichswald you drive back towards the Dutch border, where the forests open up in a beautiful rural region.
