Walking through the Buiten van Utrecht

Your route starts at PAND Pannenkoek Restaurant & Ice Cream Parlour. From here you can discover the Buiten van Utrecht, a wonderfully quiet area just outside the city. You enjoy the silence, to recharge completely. The day immediately starts well when you walk into the picturesque ribbon village of Schalkwijk. The Schalkwijkse Wetering runs through the village, past the Sint-Michaëlkerk, a neo-Gothic cruciform basilica from 1879. In the outlying area you also pass a few old farms. A little later you have a beautiful view from the Lekdijk over the river and the floodplains, such as the Steenwaard and the Lazaruswaard. You also pass the Fort Honswijk defenses. Finally, you will see the walking park with garden complex that is located on the site of the former Kasteel Schalkwijk.
