Cycling along the German border

Discover the surroundings of Reuver in North Limburg. During this cycle route you deviate to Germany to enjoy cycling through the woods.

The White Stone
The starting point - and also the end point - of this route is De Witte Stein. If the weather permits, you can linger here on the lovely terrace, but you can also sit inside and enjoy a nice cup of coffee with cake or lunch. Good to know: you can park here for free. The first part of the bike ride you cycle directly through the German forest of the Heidemoore and Schlucht. Then you follow the route through the Brachter Wald.

Bratter Wald
The Brachter Wald is a vast forest area on the border of the Netherlands and Germany that is ideal for hours of walks or bike rides. Until 1996, this area was hermetically sealed as an ammunition depot for the British armed forces. Recently, however, the area has been accessible again and it is wonderful to walk here. In recent decades, a unique heath landscape has developed on the very nutrient-poor and dry sandy soils.

Quiet environment
Because the Brachter Wald is closed to motorized traffic, you can cycle here in peace. As soon as you leave the forest, you immediately enter the next nature reserve: Beesels Broek. It is an alder and poplar forest, interspersed with small moist grassland plots. Two streams cut through the area. Via the most picturesque villages of Rijkel and Reesel you cycle along the Maas to Reuvel, and then end at De Witte Stein.
