Walking around Almen

During this short walk you will explore the picturesque Almen and its surroundings. Put on your walking shoes and explore this area in the Achterhoek.

Starting point: Almen
The walking route starts at Landhotel De Hoofdige Boer, a cozy hotel-café-restaurant in the picturesque village center of Almen in Gelderland. From here you can enjoy cycling or walking through the Grote Veld and through the beautiful IJssel valley. After a day spent in the fresh air, you can relax further at Landhotel De Hoofdige Boer, where you can rest while enjoying a snack and drink.

Picturesque Almen
Almen is located between the Twente Canal and the river Berkel, in the middle of an agricultural area and beautiful estates and nature reserves. The Protestant church in Almen contains a crypt with mummified bodies. Unfortunately, these cannot be viewed. From the village you can walk to the beautiful Achterhoek scenic landscape in no time.

Walking along the Berkel
For a large part of the route you walk along the river Berkel, a river that originates in Germany. The river flows through the Achterhoek and flows into the IJssel at Zutphen. Enjoy the beautiful view as you walk along the water. Before you arrive at Landhotel De Hoofdige Boer, you will pass Museum Staring Almen, a regional museum about the country of poet ACW Staring: the Achterhoek. Here you feel the love for the landscape, history and culture of the Achterhoek.
