Description
It is not without reason that the Hoeksche Waard is considered a National Landscape. This beautiful area is ideal for cycling. Get on the saddle and experience the beauty of this island for yourself.
Westmaas
The route starts at Camping't Volgerland, a comfortable overnight stay where you can experience the tranquility of the Hoeksche Waard. First you drive your legs loose in the polders. You cycle through a mosaic of dikes, creeks and vast meadows. Get a breath of fresh air under the high skies and enjoy the silence. You will pass through characteristic villages such as Klaaswaal and Westmaas where you will see the Windlust Mill.
Numansdorp
From junction 31 you look out to the left over the Sint Anthoniepolder, which dates from 1357. It is the only polder in the Hoeksche Waard that did not flood during the infamous Sint-Elizabeth flood of 1421. Strijen is one of the oldest places in the Hoeksche Waard. You will see beautiful houses and farms, but also the fifteenth-century St. Lambertus Church. Further on you pass the marina of Numansdorp, via Zuid-Beijerland you drive back to Camping't Volgerland.
