Walking through the Ouwerkerk creek area

After the flood disaster, part of the land around Ouwerkerk was developed as a nature reserve. You can enjoy a peaceful walk here along meadows and rippling water. You will also pass through Ouwerkerk, the oldest village on the former island of Duiveland. There are still several centuries-old buildings with stepped gables on the Ring. From junction 95 you walk through a forest where oaks, poplars, ash, elm and beech grow. Further on you walk along the Oosterschelde, on the dike you have a small viewpoint. Towards the end of the route you will pass Museum Flood 1953. This museum is located in the four caissons that closed the last hole in the dike at Ouwerkerk after the floods. You are welcome for a snack and drink at Het Vijfde Caisson - Museum Brasserie and Knowledge Center.
