Walking through the Krekengebied Ouwerkerk

After the flood disaster, part of the land around Ouwerkerk was set up as a nature reserve. You can enjoy a peaceful walk along meadows and rippling water. You will also pass through Ouwerkerk, the oldest village on the former island of Duiveland. There are still a few centuries-old buildings with stepped gables on the Ring. From node 95 you walk through a forest where oaks, poplars, ash, elms and beeches grow. Further on you walk along the Oosterschelde, on the dike you have a small viewpoint. Towards the end of the route you will pass Museum Watersnood 1953. This museum is housed in the four caissons that closed the last hole in the dike at Ouwerkerk after the floods. At Het Vijfde Caisson - Museum Brasserie and Knowledge Center you are welcome for a snack and a drink.
