Tour of Meijel and Simonshoekse Bos

Your route starts at Peelpavilion Onze Stek. Meijel is blessed with a beautiful square and beautiful surroundings. It is the gateway to the Groote Peel, but is also close to the vast forests around Heiboem. Meijel is located at one of the few passages through the Peel, on the road from Den Bosch to Cologne: a connection that dates back to Roman times. West of Meijel lies the Simonshoekse bos, a small, varied forest area with coniferous and deciduous trees. After a possible break in Meijel, you walk towards the Deurne Canal, where you walk along for a while. This canal was dug in 1874. Initially it was intended for drainage of the peat area and for the transport of the peat that was excavated in the Peel.
