Description

This cycle route explores the polder region around Diksmuide, the centre of the "Boterland". The region is characterised by vast meadows, interspersed with numerous ditches, here and there a large farm and poplars that have grown crooked due to the westerly wind. Starting from Diksmuide, the tour takes you past atmospheric villages such as Sint-Jacobskapelle, Nieuwkapelle, Oudekapelle, Lampernisse, Zoutenaaie and Pervijze. A theme that inevitably crops up again and again is that of the First World War. For four years, the Yser formed the front line here. Along the route, we find numerous monuments, memorials and bunkers that remind us of this. More information: www.bezoekdiksmuide.be
