De Pastorie

This mansion dates from the nineteenth century and was originally used as a rectory for the Oude Kerk. During the Second World War, Kate ter Horst lived here with her husband and six children. She gave the Allies permission to set up the house during Operation Market Garden as a sort of "field hospital". About 300 wounded British soldiers were cared for, including by Kate ter Horst herself. The British soldiers nicknamed her 'Angel of Arnhem'. Ter Horst was also staged in the film "A brigde too far": she was played by Liv Ullmann.
